(the Adirondack Mountain Club) It was 75 miles with over 6800ft. of elevation gain. I met some great people and finished in 4 hours and 52 minutes. Before this, my long rides were slow and I never averaged over 13mph. Because the of the great riders of the Ididaride I kept up with a 15.8mph average through all the up and the downs. I hope to do it again next year, it was a great and well organized event.

Alcohol Fuel

hello russell,
i am from greece, i love nature camping, and i love making things by my own. i like alot your videos and i would like to make you som e questions.
1. i can't understan what is the denatured alcohol and in what store i can find it.

jim

Hey Jim, This vid might help. I am trying to go ultralight and trade in the
50lb pack for something easier on the back. While I have watched your
videos which were great, do you have a typed essential equipment checklist
that you use before heading out? If so, I would love to take a look. Any
other resources you can suggest for go ultralight would be appreciated as
well. I usually use 1.5 ounces of fuel per meal depending on the stove. Since it is your first time out with this stove, go with 2 oz. per meal. That should be safe. Can I use rubbing alcohol in my camp stove?
-ryman3894

Believe it or not, rubbing alcohol has in-trained water in it. It burns very sooty by itself. I have seen people blend it with denatured alcohol with great success... BUT I like to keep it simple. I use straight isopropyl alcohol that can be found either at your local gas station or truck stop. It comes as dry-gas (the yellow HEET bottle is the best) or as the truck stop as brake line dryer. You are right on with your thought process. The truth is that you are right. Hot food is for comfort. Some people would tell you that they can carry less weight by using dehydrated food and reheating it... maybe true, but there is alot of thought and effort involved.

If you want to do all cold food, let me suggest dried fruit, cheese, summer sausage, candy bars, and powerbars. As long as you make sure that your vitamin intake and caloric intake is in balance, then go for it.

I am a softy and I like my hot dinners, but you save time and weight if you just eat ready to go foods.
